Fortnite players will soon have a wealth of options to play the popular shooter as Epic Games reveal plans to bring the game to Android.
Fortnite players can currently battle it out against 99 opponents on most other platforms, including Xbox One, PS4, PC, iOS and most recently, the Nintendo Switch, but soon you could be playing it on your Android phone.
Here, the Express.co.uk explains when Fortnite will be coming to Android and how to play it on your phone.
When is Fortnite coming to Android?
Fortnite is now a cultural phenomenon, seeping into most aspects of modern life.
The battle royale shooter has been taken up by gamers and celebrities alike, with Drake and Dele Ali both claiming to be fans of the game.
Fortnite is a battle arena shooter, pitching 100 players against each other in an ever-shrinking map, to survive as the last man standing.
Games are fast-paced and hectic as players collect weapons and resources to survive.
Fortnite started life as a PC game that only had a player-vs-engine (PVE) aspect in Save the World mode.
Game developers Epic Games quickly tapped into the battle royale genre that had proved to be popular with rivals PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG), adding an arena mode that saw players compete online.
Since its inception in 2015, FOrtnite has grown to be the most played game on the market, with 40 million players logging on to play every month.
The game was announced as available to PS4, Xbox One and Mac, before progressing to mobile on March 2018.
Containing the exact same gameplay and content from the consoles, Fortnite mobile is essentially the same game but the controls and field of view are limited to the size of your phone screen.
Releasing initially on iOS, Epic Games has said they are “targeting this summer for a release”, with cross-play on the platform being available “eventually”.
For now, players can only enjoy Fortnite mobile on the iOS for iPhone.
How do you play Fortnite on your phone?
When Fortnite was released on iOS, players had to be invited by Epic Games or by friends who already own the game to play.
Registering your interest, you were sent an email invite that you could share with friends to log in and play.
So far on the iOS, you have to have select devices – specifically iPhone 6S / SE, iPad Mini 4 / Pro / Air 2 / 2017, all running iOS 11 – for it to work.
The game is still not currently available on Android.
Players on iOS use prompts on the screen to move around, aim and shoot their weapons.
The controls are expectedly very different from the console, but adaptions have been made to make the game more mobile friendly, such as tapping on weapons and loot to pick it up.
