Announced today during the Direct stream, Fortnite Battle Royale is coming to Nintendo Switch console.
The Fortnite Switch downloads will be going live June 12, in all regions, something that may have come as a surprise to handheld owners.
Fortnite Battle Royale can be downloaded for free from 6pm UK time TODAY.
It’s unclear if an Online subscription will be needed when the Nintendo Switch network goes live later this summer, although it seems pretty likely.
For those who want to be first to download the new game, you’ll need to log into the Switch store at the time mentioned above.
There’s a good chance of a lot of traffic at this time, so be ready for some disruption.
Servers could easily get overloaded if everyone tries to grab the game at the same time.
It has also been reported that cross-play will be available too, although it will only be with some platforms.
Fortnite Switch will be playable with other gamers on Xbox One, PC, Mac, and mobile.
It will not, however, be available with PS4 gamers, which also means that PSN users probably won’t be able to carry over progress to the Switch via their Epic account.
It was also announced that Fortnite on Switch would not be the Mobile version of the game, and will use Nintendo Switch servers too.
A recent leak suggested that Fortnite Nintendo Switch would be revealed during Nintendo’s E3 Direct presentation. This has since been backed up by various industry insiders.
Epic Games tends to work quickly, releasing weekly updates with new game modes, content and more.
It’s also unclear if Fortnite Save the World will be ported alongside Battle Royale in 2018.
A new Korean Game Rating Board listing suggests that Save the World is coming to Switch.
However, nothing was revealed during the Nintendo Direct E3 stream, so fans will have to wait and see on more news coming this week.
